 À 72 ans, Henri Matisse survit à une lourde opération et échappe à la mort. Mais il est désormais en chaise roulante, et on lui déconseille l’usage de tout diluant dans sa peinture. Finie la térébenthine, il adopte la Linel, une gouache ultrafine dont il enduit des feuilles entières qu’il se met à découper, armé d’une paire de ciseaux.

61 Henri Matisse artworks are donated to the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris.

The museum has received an “extraordinarily generous” donation of 61 works by Henri Matisse that have been kept in the artist’s family until a ‘complete surprise’ donation.

Most of the donated art – which includes paintings, drawings, etchings, lithographs and a sculpture – features the painter’s daughter Marguerite.
