## El Huracán de Santa Cruz del Sur

This one was horrific

Quote:

>The 1932 Cuba hurricane, known also as El Huracán de Santa Cruz del Sur[1] or the 1932 Camagüey hurricane,[2] was a **powerful** and ***catastrophic tropical cyclone*** that struck the island country of Cuba in Noviembre 1932, becoming the deadliest and one of the most intense on record to have made landfall in the country. It is the only Category 5 Atlantic hurricane ever recorded in November. The cyclone had a path through the Caribbean Sea atypical to most hurricanes developing late in the Atlantic hurricane season.

I'm in the process of gathering more information on this tropical cyclone, and wanted to share what I've found so far.

Cyclones are fascinating storm systems, which naturally also occur on other planets in all star systems

To make my search focussed, I also looked op tropical cyclones of Cat 5 which I also sourced down here

Northern hemisphere snow cover is shrinking—new analysis tracks how fast

Faculty at Mississippi State University are continuing work at the intersection of mathematics, statistics, and climate science with the publication of a new study examining regional snow cover trends across the Northern Hemisphere. The results suggest shrinking snow coverage as well as seasonal shifts for when the wintry layer comes and goes. The study, "Regional Analysis of Snow Presence Trends in the Northern Hemisphere," was published in January in the Journal of Hydrometeorology.

That's now both of my mother's fountain pens (the #Waterman #Hemisphere I bought for her for Xmas 2007 and the #Lamy #Studio I bought for her last Spring) cleaned, serviced, loaded up with her preferences of ink (Diamine's Mediterranean Blue and Aurora Borealis respectively) and a Morris & Co writing set ready and waiting that I'd intended for Mother's Day this year.

She's been out of hospital for a few days and wants to write a thank you note to the teams that helped her over those 3 weeks.

So, that #Waterman fountain pen I bought for my mother shortly before Xmas 2007 that never worked properly...

...I managed to find it a week ago and I've just spent a couple of hours cleaning it very carefully. It must have had some dried ink from factory testing blocking the flow, because it now works perfectly!

And I've been able to identify it as being part of their #Hemisphere range. They still make the range, but not in this lovely dark, rich, metallic red.

@wdlindsy And having soldiers there is not enough. Greenland is only secure if Trump's family gets the rare earths there.

"Trump told the New York Times that the U.S. may have to choose between seizing Greenland and preserving NATO, arguing that outright ownership matters more than treaties or international law, remarks that prompted warnings from Denmark and other European leaders that any U.S. attack on Greenland would effectively end the alliance and deepen transatlantic tensions."
