The bee fly Hemipenthes celeris has something like a buggy version of vanta black on its wings, and I wish I knew what sort of game it was playing.

It's #FlowerFriday and #Flyday Friday! This beefly (Hemipenthes morio) and sweat bee (Agapostemon rexanus) know what I'm talking about.

These are brilliant flowers of the Pincushion Cactus (Escobaria vivipara), one of Manitoba's two native cactus species. They have my vote for most stunning wild flower in the province.
