#FotoVorschlag: #Schnecken // #Snails

🤩 // Oh, nice! I've wanted to show you this #snail for a while now! 😊 First I thought the poor thing was hurt or deformed, but then I realized it's a species I have never heard of: a lapidary snail! 🤩

#Helix #lucorum (#Helicidae) is a land #snail #species with a noticeably large shell that is originally distributed in Asia Minor and the Black Sea region. Like Cornu aspersum, the species is popular as a #delicacy in Europe, but is rarely bred and is instead taken from the field. Author I. Ekin (2023) deals with the #reproductiveprocesses of H. lucorum and studied them in the field for several years. #biodiversity

The #snail #Arianta #arbustorum (#Helicidae, #Gastropoda) is a land snail (#Stylommatophora) that is quite common in #Berlin, especially in urban #forest areas. However, the snail is flexible in terms of its #ecological requirements and can also be found in open areas. It is widespread in Central Europe and northwestern Europe and primarily requires #moisture. It also appears in #mountainous areas of up to 2700 m. #biodiversity #Mollusca

The #terrestrial #pulmonate #gastropods (#Stylommatophora, Gastropoda) have two pairs of #retractile #tentacles, an #apomorphy (#evolutionary innovation of the stem species) of the higher taxon Euthyneura. The rear pair of tentacles is elongated and has #eyes at its tips.
My photos show them in a close #macro shot using the Mediterranean #snail #species #Cornu #aspersum (#Helicidae).

What are snails like this doing on the leaves of plants in my garden in the early morn? Drinking the dew? Cleaning the leaves?

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of these snails (grove snail, Capea nemoralis, I assume) in my very small garden, so if they were munching on the green leaves there wouldn't be a single living plant left.
