Just switched my keyboard on my phone to an OSS one. I don't know why it took me so long to realize you don't NEED to use big tech keyboards. I found HeliBoard on F-Droid, looks like an AOSP based keyboard, without any internet permissions. Way snappier than Swiftkey was.

Das letzte Stück #Microsoft wurde heute von meinen Android-Geräten verbannt: #Swiftkey.

Nachdem Microsoft ab Mai 2026 zwingend einen MS-Account voraussetzen soll und plant, die gesammelten Daten zu OneDrive hochzuladen, musste die einst so geliebte Tastatur weg. Als Grund für den Upload in die Cloud heißt es übrigens, dass die Daten dort "sicherer" wären.

Mein Ersatz ist #HeliBoard (z.B. auf F-Droid): Open Source, 100% offline, Wischeingabe nachrüstbar, konfigurierbar.

For anyone that is submitting data to #heliboard. We found a bug in creating the zip files. It starts to hang for quite a long time, and can sometimes crash, if you try to submit several thousand gestures. We are working on it.

My guess is we are compressing too aggressively, and Java's zip implementation is RAM heavy.

In the meantime, we suggest you keep your submissions to fewer than 3,000 words.

Your mileage may vary based on the speed of your phone and the amount of RAM it has.

O #teclado  Heliboard co financiamento de @nlnet está a desenvolver unha biblioteca de xestos de escritura en diferentes idiomas de código aberto que poidan utilizar outros proxectos (teclados).

Esta é a pantalla de obtención dos datos para os xestos de escritura!

É parte dun proxecto financiado por NLnet que intenta producir unha biblioteca de escritura por xestos totalmente de código aberto e capaz de substituír a biblioteca de código oculto de Google. O resultado proxectado pretende ser unha substitución simple para teclados baseados en AOSP, pero tamén utilizable por outros teclados, ex. FloriBoard.

Para desenvolver a biblioteca, é tremendamente útil ter datos de xestos en diferentes idiomas e diferentes persoas usuarias.
Ao obter e enviar datos de xestos ao escribir contribúes ao conxunto de datos aberto que se usarán para o desenvolvemento. O conxunto de datos vaise publicar con licenza CC BY-SA 4.0 cando finalice a etapa de obtención de datos en %s. Unha vez recollidos os datos, podes envialos usando a icona compartir ao pé desta pantalla.

Volunteers keep thanking me for running the #heliboard gesture data project.

I'm very appreciative!... but I need to say, this couldn't happen if Helium314 wasn't working so hard over the last few years. They're also implementing data collection. I only defined the UX flow, and did the outreach.

I also wrote the email attachment thing, so blame me if it breaks. :-)

Helium has put way more lifeblood into this than me. The first place to help is finding ways to lighten their load as maintainer.
