⬆️ The #KitchenerTelegram gained something in translation that #British had not intended — involvement of #Arabs DURING the War

So a "clarification" was sent, which made matters worse

Secret societies of discontented Arabs in #Hejaz (#Arabia) immediately latched on to these signals and drafted the #DamascusProtocol, not for #Palestinians #inTheirName, but for their OWN power

In any case, #Britain did not owe Palestinians anything because the latter never fought the #Turks to help the British

⬆️
While this sounds diabolical, let's not forget what brought #Britain to this.

It was, of course, the #TurkishGermanGreatWarIntrigue on the international front as well as their oppression of #Arabs in #Palestine and #Hejaz (#Arabia).

In the latter case, discontent was already brewing among Arabs within the #Ottoman Empire even before the British became entangled.

This was a World War. Intrigue everywhere was the norm, not exception.

Britain sensed the discontent and sought to exploit it.

⬆️ Grand Sharif #Hussein secretly dispatched emissaries to main #Arab leaders

1915: #Hussein learns of #Turkish plans to depose him, and to assert #Ottoman control over #Hejaz

#AlAhd & #AlFatat join forces; conceive the #DamascusProtocol, foundation of #ArabRevolt

Implicit in the Damascus Protocol, Grand Sharif Hussein would preside over the "Great Arab State" containing #Palestine.

#Britain Makes Hussein an offer for an independent #sovereign #Muslim State & full control over holy sites!

Desert of Paran (Deserts 🏜️)

The Desert of Paran or Wilderness of Paran, is a location mentioned in the Hebrew Bible. It is one of the places where the Israelites spent part of their 40 years of wandering after the Exodus, and was also a home to Ishmael, and a place of refuge for David. In Islamic tradition, it has often been equated with an area of the Hejaz.
