Experimental #reproduction of viral #replication & #disease in dairy #calves & lactating #cows inoculated with #HPAI #H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b, BioRxIV, https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.07.12.603337v1
#Heifers were inoculated by an #aerosol respiratory route & #cows by an intramammary route. Clinical disease was mild in heifers, but infection was confirmed by virus detection, lesions, & seroconversion. Clinical disease in lactating cows included decreased rumen motility, changes to milk appearance, & production losses...
“Like a #4H Club event at the state fair, the premium #crossover mkt…attracts cute little #heifers from all over: Sweden (#Volvo), Japan (#Lexus), Germany (#Audi), US (#Lincoln) & South Korea (#Hyundai)…no matter how primped & polished the contestants, when they enter the ring, they become 🐄 livestock - commoditized, consumable. Discerning judges look past the braided tails & cow mascara. It’s about the beef on the hoof…the #Genesis GV70 might as well be Babe the Blue Ox.” 👀
