speaking of #StolenJokes, my dear, departed friend Martha and I were attending a comedy open mike in Seattle, way back in the Great Comedy Scare of the 1980s.

one of the comics laid down a huge groaner of a joke, earning the groans it deserved.

he said, “Hey! Don’t blame me, I stole that joke.”

Martha, without missing a beat shouted, “Steal the ones that get laughs!”

she got one of the biggest laughs of the evening.

if you know me at all, you’ll know why I loved her.
