Sadly the #Heavitree and #Whipton #LTN trial has been cancelled - although there was a small increase in traffic on boundary roads, it achieved its aim of reducing overall traffic volume, improving air quality, increasing the number of walking and cycling journeys and had no negative impact on emergency service response times. But because 80% or the consultation responses were negative they cancelled it. “Entitled motorists will stop at virtually nothing to drive where they want”: My week as a human bollard in one of Britain’s most controversial LTNs

While acting as ‘human bollards’ at a barely enforced Exeter bus gate, cycling campaigners faced a week of abuse, dangerous driving, aggression, intimidation, and online trolling. But activist Caspar Hughes says the tide may be turning

Brave residents from #Heavitree are becoming 'human bollards' right now and all this week to try and enforce the bus gates in the #ActiveStreets Trial, and shame the council & police into enforcing these parts of the trial.
Please give them all the support you can: in person and on line.

Flash flooding in Exeter as vehicles stuck and major road closed

This happens every time we get a sudden deluge, as the Northbrook was culverted here in the 1930s.

It used to be an open stream here, at Heavitree Bridge. The culvert can't cope.

You'd think they'd look at upgrading the culvert to prevent the mayhem that ensues for several hours.
