The
#UK government has launched a call for evidence on how self-driving vehicles should be safely introduced across Great
#Britain, marking the next phase of the Automated Vehicles Act. Road users, industry,
#charities and
#disability groups are being asked for views on safety, licensing, incident investigation and cybersecurity, as well as how the
#technology can improve accessibility. Ministers say self-driving
#transport could boost independent
#travel for disabled and older people, while supporting up to 38,000 jobs and a sector worth an estimated £42 billion by 2035. Trials are already under way in Milton Keynes and at
#Heathrow, and a passenger piloting scheme will begin next spring. A draft regulatory framework will be consulted on in 2026, with full rules expected from 2027. Industry and accessibility organisations welcomed the move, stressing the need for strong safety standards, inclusive design and public confidence.
