Si tratta di figure professionali che lavorano su set cinematografici e televisivi per gestire e supervisionare le scene intime (baci, nudità, sesso simulato), garantendo che tutto avvenga in modo sicuro, consensuale e rispettoso per gli attori.
L’attrice, oggi 56enne, riconosce senza esitazioni il valore di questo cambiamento, come riporta Page Six: “Il MeToo è stato straordinario e gli intimacy coordinator hanno ottime intenzioni“. Ma poi arriva il rovescio della medaglia: “Se sei abituata a lavorare senza e all’improvviso ti ritrovi una persona in più nella stanza che ti guarda mentre fingi di fare sesso… è strano. Ed è un po’ imbarazzante”. Il punto, spiega, non è mettere in discussione la funzione di queste figure, nate per proteggere gli attori, ma l’effetto concreto sul set. “A volte penso: potete far uscire tutte queste persone dalla stanza?”.

E poi c’è il tema del “doppio comando”. Graham racconta un episodio preciso: “Un intimacy coordinator ha iniziato a dirmi come fare una scena di sesso. Tipo: ‘Quando fai questo, puoi fare così’. E io ho pensato: ‘Non sei il regista. Non mi servono indicazioni su come fare sesso nella scena’”. La sensazione, dice Graham, è stata netta: “Ho avuto proprio voglia di dire: stai zitto. Dillo al regista, perché non voglio due persone che mi dirigono. Crea solo confusione”. Per chi ha alle spalle una carriera lunga (da Boogie Nights a The Hangover) il punto, secondo l’attrice, è anche un altro: l’esperienza. “Forse è utile quando sei più giovane e non sai ancora farti valere. Ma a questo punto mi sento abbastanza forte”. E quindi la conclusione è semplice: “Non voglio troppe persone nella stanza“.

These are professional figures who work on film and television sets to manage and oversee intimate scenes (kisses, nudity, simulated sex), ensuring that everything happens safely, consensually, and respectfully for the actors.
The actress, now 56, readily acknowledges the value of this change, as reported by Page Six: “MeToo was extraordinary and intimacy coordinators have good intentions.” But then comes the other side of the coin: “If you’re used to working without and suddenly you find someone else in the room looking at you while you’re pretending to have sex… it’s strange. And it’s a little awkward.” The point, she explains, is not to question the function of these figures, born to protect actors, but the concrete effect on set. “Sometimes I think: you can just get all these people out of the room?”

And then there’s the issue of “double command.” Graham recounts a specific incident: “An intimacy coordinator started telling me how to do a sex scene. Like: ‘When you do this, you can do this.’ And I thought: ‘You’re not the director. I don’t need instructions on how to do sex in the scene.’” The feeling, she says, was clear: “I really wanted to say: shut up. Tell the director, because I don’t want two people directing me. It just creates confusion.” For someone with a long career (from Boogie Nights to The Hangover), the actress believes the point is also another: experience. “Maybe it’s useful when you’re younger and you don’t know how to stand up for yourself yet. But at this point, I feel pretty strong.” And so the conclusion is simple: “I don’t want too many people in the room.”
