Fifteen researchers from the World Weather Attribution group confirmed it: one in every four World Cup 2026 matches will occur under conditions the players' own union defines as dangerous. The threshold is 26°C Wet Bulb Globe Temperature — accounting for humidity, wind, sun angle, and the body's actual capacity to cool itself under full system load.
FIFA scheduled a significant portion of matches at midday. Peak WBGT windows. In direct contradiction of their own player safety guidelines.
The World Weather Attribution team was categorical: this heat is "much more likely" than at the 1994 World Cup on the same continent. Climate change didn't nudge the numbers. It moved the goalposts.
NOAA's heat monitoring was gutted. The earth doesn't care who won the bid.
