My wife and I installed 14kW of Solar PV on our roof which included a #homebattery last year. I can charge the #EV at the same time as running the dishwasher, induction stove, oven, microwave and #HeatPumpHotWater. All using #SolarEnergy. Today in #Melbourne it’s 37C outside and on these blisteringly hot days I can do all of the above and run the A/C cooling 24h and not have to worry about a power bill. Not only that, aside from our home energy use, we are exporting surplus power and yesterday alone we sold $5 back to the grid. I’m expecting something similar today.

Am loving the new #HeatPumpHotWater system. It’s efficient, quiet, looks like living up to expectation of being significantly cheaper than the old infinity gas system, and even if the electricity is not entirely generated by sustainable means (yet) it is significantly lighter on carbon production. It’s a win-win-win-win. 😊

The tradesmen have just left the property taking the old gas hot water system with them. In it's place they left behind a brand new heat pump system. Cost is $2600 after the various state and federal rebates are applied. It should pay for itself within 3 years. My gas hot water was the last gas appliance on the property so now I can close the account and they can take the meter away. I already have 5.5 kw of solar panels on the roof so I can set a timer to use that power to heat the water between 10am and 3pm.
You may ask why I didn't just get a regular solar HWS which have been around for 50 years or more. Every household is different depending on such factors as roof space and orientation, geographic location etc. My research showed that heat pump HWS was the way to go for me.
I chose an Aquatech all-in-one system. You can spend up to $6000 for a Reclaim or Sanden system with separate, more powerful and quieter compressor. I would be careful about spending less than what I paid. There are some very cheap systems out there that just don't last. Look carefully at the warranty and the reputation of the supplier.
