What I have learned, and the next chapter in my journey

@broadwaybabyto Don’t people understand that we’ve been in an ableist genocidal crisis for years now?

Health supremacy is no different than the white supremacy or male supremacy, except it may be a little worse because we are blamed for being disabled rather than something is that is beyond our control.

Small #Diabetes win for me! I have reached a TIR (time-in-range) of ~90%. I am officially a #Diabadass.

Generally, endocrinologists praise >70%, but I still decided to put my health first, and even decided to go all in—no half measures: it's no longer about glucose, it's about the sacred trinity of metabolic health, diet and lifestyle.

I can't truly express how happy I am with the results my new lifestyle has been yielding so far. I won't sugarcoat it, there have been ebbs and flows, but overall, my management has improved a lot. And more than anything else, I am extremely proud of myself for seeking such positive change.

The benefits have not only been limited to health, funny enough. I've seen lots of improvements in my overall health, cognition and mood. It turns out, your body has its way of saying "thank you" when it does things right.

And the truth is, this has not been a story of "balance". We live in a world where actual health hazards are common, sometimes even the norm, especially to us diabetics. It's not been about *reducing* but about eliminating.

That "one cookie" was nothing more than ten seconds of pleasure, and ten minutes of glucose spike. More metabolic stress in my body, and worse overall metabolic health.

I didn't wait for the cookie, I learned to reject the cookie—sugar cravings are no longer a thing for me, and I couldn't be happier. It fills me with joy reaching out for an apple and being able to enjoy its taste, and truly appreciate it for what it is, fuel for my body.

But overall, I'm mostly just happy, and at peace with myself. At peace with my own mind, for finally getting on the right track, and at peace with my body for finally taking care of it like it deserves.

I've been increasing weights at the gym like never before, and I've gone for jogs I would have thought impossible before.

If you're seeing this as a non-diabetic, I seriously urge you to change your lifestyle for the better. I'm not urging you to go for a diet, or for a "detox", I'm urging you to reject what's ultimately just hurting us: ultra-processed food, high glycemic index snacks...

Just skip the cookie. Reject the cigarette. Leave the chips on the shelf. Go for that jog. Load up on vegetables. Your body will thank you—and sooner than you think.

Ultimately, one of the things that has helped me the most is the ability to just stop for a moment before putting something in my mouth—but, most importantly, only doing so only when strictly necessary.

I know something like this probably won't be enough of a wakeup call for most people. I have to admit, I ignored the endocrinologists' advice until I realized the reality of my situation. I had to go through my own process, and my own little "scare", but in the end I turned out fine.

Stay healthy, guys. ❤️‍🩹

“Wellness” is eugenics adjacent. It’s always been about hiding or eliminating the disabled and chronically ill, not about actually helping them.

If you’re sick? It’s your fault. You didn’t try hard enough to get better. You didn’t eat the right foods, take the right potions or exercise enough.

Wellness “influencers” are exceedingly dangerous to disabled and chronically ill people, because they push the idea that we could get better if we ‘really wanted to’.

So why are we making one the US Surgeon General? And what does it mean for those of us living with chronic illness?

Why The New Surgeon General Pick Might Be The Most Dangerous One Yet

Wellness "Influencer" Casey Means has been selected as the next US Surgeon General, despite having an inactive medical license. Her viewpoints range from nonsensical to absurdly dangerous.

Zu Gast u.a.

Abled supremacy is a cornerstone of white supremacy and settler colonialism. They do not exist separately, it’s the interconnectedness that keeps the wheels of capitalism, genocide, and the medical industrial complex churning. Dismantling systems of oppression must be linked through radical intersectionality. We cannot have a free society with for profit medical care, built on disabled death and abuse. “doctors” often police access to care, and support objectifying disabled bodies for “research purposes”. Dismantling the inherent ableist power dynamics that medical professionals are indoctrinated with takes a lifetime of unlearning, and advocating against. Listen and learn from disabled folx, especially disabled Black and Brown communities. #COVID19 #intersectionality #abledsupremacy #anticapitalism #ableism #WearAMask #MedicalIndustrialComplex #healthSupremacy
