Zwar wird sie sicher 2026 fertiggestellt sein, aber als Ästhetik und Sozialraum funktioniert die dortige #Architektur nicht.

Benedikt Weibel hat "mehr als Kopfschütteln" für die Pläne übrig, die Gäubahn im Rahmen der Stuttgart 21-Baumaßnahmen auf der Strecke zwischen Hauptbahnhof und Vaihingen zu unterbrechen. Der frühere Chef der Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen (SBB) ist ein erklärter Kritiker der Deutschen Bahn und sagte in SWR Aktuell: „Ich hätte mir nie träumen lassen, dass diese Gäubahn gekappt wird.“ Die Gäubahn ist Grundbestandteil des Transeuropäischen Eisenbahnnetzes. Sie führt von Stuttgart nach Singen und weiter in die Schweiz nach Italien. Bis es eine neue Anbindung gibt, soll es mindestens sieben Jahre dauern. Nach Einschätzung Weibels wäre es in der Schweiz zu einer solchen Situation gar nicht erst gekommen. "Zürich und Stuttgart sind Kopfbahnhöfe im Zentrum einer Stadt. Zürich übrigens mit drei Mal so viel Verbindungen am Tag wie Stuttgart." Dort habe man das Problem mit zwei unterirdischen Durchgangsbahnhöfen gelöst. "Und in Stuttgart hat man sich mit dem Tieferlegen des Bahnhofs jede pragmatische Lösung verbaut. Und die Deutsche Bahn ist in eine gewaltige Komplexitätsfalle hineingeraten." Für Benedikt Weibel ist Stuttgart 21 nur ein Beispiel für die verkorkste deutsche Verkehrspolitik, wie der Schweizer Bahnmanager im Gespräch mit SWR Aktuell-Moderator Christian Rönspies erklärte.
