A quotation from Hazlitt

The least pain in our little finger gives more concern and uneasiness than the destruction of millions of our fellow beings.

William Hazlitt (1778-1830) English writer
Essay (1829-10), “American Literature — Dr. Channing,” Edinburgh Review, Vol. 50, No. 99, Art. 7

@mjmurphyva Uhm.. w..what? Why?

First of all, calling #libertarian an autocrat is kinda "strange", at the least. For me, feels like projection, honestly...

Secondly, my favorite thing is that he quotes #Mises, #Rothbard, #Hazlitt, #Hyek and others, and that his view of reducing #government (where >50% of #Argentina workforce is in public sector - unsustainable) is just for the best.

He's short-term #minarchist, long-term #AnCap.

Time will tell if any good will come of him. Power corrupts...

@ajsadauskas @barubary The fallacy was identified over 170 years ago by #economist Frédéric #Bastiat as “the parable of the broken window” in “That Which is Seen, and That Which is Not Seen”: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Essays_on_Political_Economy/That_Which_Is_Seen,_and_That_Which_Is_Not_Seen#The_Broken_Window

Henry #Hazlitt expanded on this in his classic “#Economics in One Lesson” (1946), a fantastic and easily-digestible book that traces the long-term consequences of common economic beliefs. You can download it for free: https://fee.org/resources/economics-in-one-lesson/

> To the Socialist this evil is the capitalistic system; to the prohibitionist it is intemperance; to the feminist it is the subjection of women; to the clergyman it is the decline of religion; to Andrew Carnegie it is war; to the staunch Republican it is the Democratic Party, and so on, ad infinitum.
> I, too, have a pet little evil, to which in more passionate moments I am apt to attribute all the others. This evil is the neglect of #thinking.
