Key Highlights from the #London Assembly #Transport Committee Agenda – 9 December 2025:
A report due for consideration on 9 December 2025 shows that, despite #TfL introducing measures such as new bus lanes and priority traffic signals, average bus speeds across London have continued to fall since the 2020/21 Assembly year.
The committee also reviewed road space, driving and congestion at its 12 November session, taking evidence from #Logistics #UK, the Road #Haulage Association and Future City Logistics. Witnesses highlighted the sharp rise in home parcel deliveries and the strain this places on London’s road network. They noted difficulties in distinguishing delivery vehicles from tradespeople’s vans, described as ‘mobile toolboxes’. Low public uptake of parcel lockers was said to fragment deliveries and reduce efficiency. The meeting ended with an agreement for further data on decarbonising road logistics and potential improvements to London Plan policies.

Explain it to me like I am an EU citizen:

There is a haulier from Southampton, a city in Britain, which famously is NOT IN THE EU. And he expects the EU to give up protecting its borders and relax its Schengen rules, so his trucks can make money by driving MORE in the EU than in his own country.

First time mum Katie Jones has taken her passion for the benefits of breastfeeding and used it to launch a business offering comfortable and practical clothing for fashion-conscious new mums.

Katie was working in the administration team of a haulage firm and, since passing her HGV driving tests, had been covering driver shifts, but realised that the male-dominated environment didn’t suit her once she had her first child, Olivia, now eight months old.

Katie, 25, who has launched Mama Glam, said:

“It was probably the worst time to decide to start a new business – just after having a newborn baby, but the terms I was offered to return to my previous job after maternity just didn’t suit me.

“Lots of my friends have become mums and we all agreed that all comfortable clothing on the market for breast feeding targets older mums.

“Perhaps it’s because breastfeeding has a traditional image, but my friends were delighted when I asked if there would be interest in a range of more fashionable clothing. Like me, they had been borrowing tops from their partners and wearing them oversized.

“Getting younger mums to breastfeed and breast pump is apparently challenging, although I believe there are so many benefits for mum and baby.”

Katie identified a need for good quality, warm clothing so that there is no need to wear lots of layers while breast feeding. Her debut range features branded hoodies, sweatshirts and T-shirts and dresses, which are available to order online and feature discreet, easily accessible zips.

She continues: “I came across British Business Bank online and noticed the competitive interest rates they offer. My business adviser has been brilliant and helped me with applying for the finance, as well as offering lots of business advice since.”

The British Business Bank Start Up Loans programme provides government backed loans of up to £25,000 per individual, up to a maximum of £100,000 per business. In addition to finance, successful applicants can receive free mentoring, access to resources and advice.

Jess Phillips-Harris, Senior Manager for Wales at the British Business Bank, said:

“We’re pleased to be able to support business owners like Katie to develop a real passion into a new business.

“The British Business Bank’s Start Up Loans programme exists for entrepreneurs like Katie. She has identified a real gap in the market and built a business around it, which benefits other women. We wish her every success in this innovative venture.”

Haulage firm A.T. Morgan and Son is hosting a family fun day and truck pull in aid of the South West Wales Cancer Centre, or SWWCC.

Company co-owners, husband and wife duo Stephen and Helen Morgan (pictured) are the driving force behind the event.

The programme includes inflatables for children, courtesy of Ospreys in the Community, food stalls, and a raffle with amazing prizes – as well as the truck pull itself.

Like so many other people, the couple’s lives have been touched by cancer. Daughter Megan sadly died in 2011 aged just 12 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Helen, whose father-in-law Alun Morgan founded the company 49 years ago, herself has a rare blood disorder that wipes out her immune system.

She has been cared for on Ward 12, the oncology and haematology ward which is part of the SWWCC at Singleton Hospital.

As a result, Helen and her work colleagues completed a sponsored walk to raise £2,500 for Ward 12. The company has also donated selection boxes to the children’s wards at Morriston Hospital.

Next up on the fundraising agenda is the Swansea Truck Pull 2024. It takes place at the firm’s yard in Crymlyn Burrows on Sunday 8th September, running from 11am until 4pm.

“It’s basically having teams of four people pulling an 8.5-ton tractor unit over 15 metres,” said Helen.

“It’s not a big strongman event. It’s for regular people to have some fun. I’m actually in a team of all-women, called Helen’s Hauliers.

“Every team is asked to raise £200 in sponsorship to go towards the cancer centre fund. We will have food stalls and Ospreys in the Community are coming with some inflatables to make it a family day.

“We’ve got 10-plus teams already signed up and the closing date is this Friday, August 23rd.

“There are prizes for the winning team and a bottle of champagne and a bouquet of flowers each. There’s also a bottle of champagne each for the runners-up and an award for the best-named team.

“We’ve had some peculiar names come in so far. It’s been quite entertaining to see what the names are.”

There will also be food stalls and a raffle, with prizes including a signed Ospreys shirt and ball, a chocolate hamper, a £100 sports therapy voucher and an Amazon Echo Dot.

Helen added: “We have a T-shirt, which is quite comical. It’s a print of someone pulling a tractor unit and it has ‘I pulled at the Swansea Truck Pull 2024’ on it. They cost £15, with £10 covering printing and £5 going straight to the South West Wales Cancer Fund.”

This fund is part of Swansea Bay Health Charity, the health board’s official charity.

It raises money for pioneering research, cutting-edge equipment, enhancing buildings and spaces, patient and family well-being and staff training not covered by core NHS funding.

“There are so many people touched by cancer,” said Helen. “People who have gone through it and have recovered, or unfortunately haven’t survived it. My own dear uncle is being treated for cancer at the moment.

“But the staff are phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal, with the care and the attention they provide. They are amazing people who treat really heartbreaking cases. It’s a sad place but it’s also a happy place.”
