In Nov. ‘06 Keith Ellison became the first Muslim American elected to Congress. Rep. Virgil Goode tried to stop him from taking his oath on the Quran. Goode lost his seat the next election, Ellison since became Minnesota AG and Ilhan Omar succeeded him in Congress.
