A small win for me tonight. I was able to convert my sister's decade-old #Haswell #Dell "gaming PC" from potential #ewaste into a box for playing #retrogame #emulators and #movies through the magic of #LinuxMint and #RetroArch. I had to swap out its broken RX 560 for a GT 1030 I had lying around but that was sufficient to play #tetris, #mariokart, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine with my spouse. Hopefully with a little tweaking I can get #steam running so we can play Lego Star Wars together.

I ordered a used Intel i7-4790 (SR1QF) for my home server. I am excited to double my threads, from 4 to 8, which has been a little bit of a bottle neck for my i5-4590. It also increases the cache, clock speed, and adds hyper-threading. I love that I have gotten so much use out of this old computer!

There's one thing I haven't tried in #FreeBSD for hardware acceleration yet: xf86-video-intel.

Granted, this is the legacy driver, but I'll give this a shot to see if it somehow works with #Haswell. Maybe it does or maybe it doesn't? 🤷

Otherwise, I think I'm about to conclude that I can't get FreeBSD graphics acceleration on Haswell. At least, KDE performance is suboptimal compared to Arch Linux, where it's smoother and also reports the proper GPU rather than "llvmpipe". That or I'm still somehow doing something wrong, but if that's the case, then what is it that I'm doing wrong? Hmmm 🤔

With x86-64-v3 basically being #Intel #Haswell and #AMD Excavator or newer (with some exceptions like select Atoms), it would be really interesting too if #Canonical would consider an x86-64-v4 option for modern systems with #AVX512 support. It'd be really interesting to see at least an experimental Ubuntu x86-64-v4 build to see what that could mean for #servers and #HPC

今天折腾自己那可怜的老爷Haswell平台，发觉打开 Hyper-V 之后，Audio over HDMI 就不工作了。
图一中 Intel 社区人员给出的测试结果推测是支持 VT-D 的处理器会出现问题，但是没有 VT-D 功能的处理器不会出现这个问题。

自己根据图 2 的 MS TechNet 给出的临时解决方案是，将输出调整为 48KHz/24bit 后重启即可解决问题。（it works for me！）

btw，系统版本是Win10 LTSC 21H2
