Thinking ahead to tomorrow’s #AppleEvent, I know #HashFlags aren’t a thing on here, but it’d be nice if there was a way for companies or brands to donate directly to individual servers (up to a cap) every time someone uses a particular sponsored hashtag on their instance.

There’d have to be a way to separate legit posts from spammy ones, and there’s all sorts of ethical questions around certain brands, but at least it might encourage discussion that indirectly keeps the lights on.

@nora wrote a lovely suggestion in the #MastodonSocial GitHub repository. It was on #hashflags, or when you'd type a hashtag it'd generate a small emoji.

For example:

- Say I type #Canada, it'd appear as #Canada 🇨🇦.
- Or #Germany would have #Germany 🇩🇪.
- Or, for the instance I'm on, it'd be changing #MastodonWorld to #MastodonWorld  .
