The wall was built during the 14th century to defend against Robert de Brus and his Scottish army. It is both a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade I listed structure.
The small sandy beach is something of a sheltered sun trap on a summer's afternoon, although can all but disappear at high tide.
If you visit, do look out for the nearby bronze statue commemorating the cartoon character Andy Capp.
Reg Smythe, who created the regular Daily Mirror cartoon strip, was Hartlepool born and bred.
