Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward was removed from the NFL's commissioner exempt list after a grand jury declined to indict him last week following a June arrest on suspicion of third-degree felony domestic violence.

Houston Texans’ Jimmie Ward removed from NFL’s exempt list after grand jury declines to indict him

He was arrested this summer in Magnolia on a felony charge of assaulting a family member after a woman called authorities to say that he strangled and threatened her, according to police records. The woman also has filed a civil lawsuit against Ward seeking $20 million in damages.

A man who was arrested and charged in the 2022 shooting death of 9-year-old Arlene Alvarez in southeast Houston, and later no-billed by a grand jury, has been indicted for murder by another grand jury, according to the Harris County DA.

Man originally charged in Houston shooting death of 9-year-old Arlene Alvarez indicted for murder, DA says

Tony Earls Jr., 33, is accused of firing multiple gunshots into a pickup truck Alvarez was riding in after he had been robbed at a southeast Houston bank. Earls was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in the immediate aftermath of the shooting but subsequently no-billed by a grand jury. Another grand jury indicted him on a murder charge this week, based on new evidence.
