Okay, I'm not one for holiday music typically, but I can't help but love this one. The message is so good, and...you just gotta watch it. Maybe have a tissue ready (good!).

Hi #deaf and #HardOfHearing community and everybody else who speaks a #signLanguage, I have a #writing question for you:
For a character who uses both sign and verbal language how would you prefer to see conversation (partially) in sign being handled? Specifically for continued conversations with multiple exchanges where one can apply a general rule; for one-liners, exclamations and such it's of course a case-by-case decision. Thanks

Using specific terms (signed, signed in reply)

Point it out once, then use verbal terms (said, …)

I notice two things immediately: first, the client's voice is crystal clear, like, suspiciously clear, and second, when I talk, I can't hear myself, which is weird, because that only happens when my HA's aren't .... on....oh shit I never turned my HA's back on!

Lesson: if I turn my HA's off with the app, it's essentially just silencing the microphone; the bluetooth capacity still operates! This is going to become a super power for me.

Adventures in Hearing, Wednesday Edition:

I use my phone app to turn off my HAs (hearing aids) when I'm in the parking garage because of all the loud mechanical noises. I get into my office, put my things away, take my seat and open my laptop. Zoom tells me that it's using my hearing aids for audio, and off I go, greeting my first client for telehealth.

The thing with the new hearing aids is that now I can hear raindrops falling more often. What a beautiful sound!!! Raindrops falling, and I can hear the real sound, not the one from music. The real raindrops!!!! #HardofHearing #HearingAids #Disability #Happy

Story time.

My Dad asked me to pick up groceries yesterday, somehow between my apartment and the grocery store - I lost the list we made together.

So I had no choice but to do that autistic thing* where I stand in the middle of a place and force my brain to rewind events and play them back so I can reconstruct the list.

I'm happy to say I only missed 1 item, the 2 bite brownies, which I picked up the next day.

*I don't know if it is because I'm hard of hearing, but I have strong visual recall. Ever see Benedict in Sherlock? Recall his "memory palace" scene? - OK it's not QUITE like that but it's similar.

Diminished hearing means... we can't hear you!
It does not mean we're ignoring you or trying to be difficult when we ask you to repeat yourself.
We just want to understand you, the same way you'd want to be understood.

And the worst part? The ones who give you the hardest time are often the people closest to you. WTF.
