Addio a Chuck Norris, duro dei film d'azione. Tra le star più celebrate a Hollywood e nel mondo per il cinema action, l'attore è morto a 86 anni. Lo ha reso noto la famiglia. Oltre a recitare, Norris era cintura nera di Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo, Karate, Hapkido e Jiu-Jitsu brasiliano e aveva creato una disciplina marziale basata su altre forme di combattimento che ha preso il nome di Chun Kuk Do. Thoroughly recommend the upcoming #DaitoRyu #Aikijujutsu seminar in Helsinki (Daito Ryu being the precursor of #aikido and #hapkido). Organised by the #Sasuga dojo, they are one of the few places on the planet that still does this Japanese #jujutsu in the oldschool ways. It's eye-opening practise that benefits whatever martial art you do.

I went to our #hapkido club today to watch my daughter earn her first degree blackbelt. This was the culmination of an epic journey that began with me starting a kids class (mostly because of her) when she was seven.

That one decision increased the size of our club tenfold over the following years, and built a really supportive community around us.

I stopped training a few years ago when health issues overtook me, but today - after my daughter was awarded her belt - they presented me with this beautiful pounamu.

It's a bittersweet ending to over twenty years at this club. I was the first student on the first day when my instructor started the club and it was him who gave me this today. I spent a decade running it as head instructor when he stepped down. I went on to train hundreds of people, compete in and win national competitions (on my own behalf and with them), and i trained many wonderful kids and adults some of whom have reached the highest levels. 16 of then were promoted today.

Pride and humility mix, as does sadness and joy.
