The worst Aussie headline I've seen in ten years, the worst since "the monster chef and the (reacted slur)"

more valid than comparisons than his:
* deadliest Australian terrorist attack since Christchurch
* deadliest shooting in Australia since Port Arthur
* or mention what happened in Gaza between October 2023 and December 2025, the gap is surreal.

The headline's juxtaposition with a missing middle looks like a very grim satire of the spree of Holocaust-minimising comparisons after the 7 October 2023. Presenting 800 civilians + 300 occupying military as comparable to 6,000,000 civilians killed by an occupying military in Europe was Holocaust-minimisation verging on outright denial, taking that down another few orders of magnitude is like a twisted parody? But he seems to be serious?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm certainly not paying for it to check.

Australian authorities have not even released the attacks names yet? but so far it looks like exactly the sort of racist misdirected rage that I've been worried about for nearly two years.

The attack in Bondi was entirely unjustified, but it was also a very likely result of the systematic destruction of the Hamas movement.

Despite Israel's disingenuous attempts to gain international support for the madd

Hamas' existence kept Australia and the Jewish Diaspora safer, their near-total destruction strengthens their rivals whose violence is much less localised.

Hamas' violence was mostly counter-productive (they were always too weak to be a useful defence force, and their attempts at deterrence only ever provoked more violence) but Hamas were also – consistently for 45 years – entirely focused on local targets: Israelis, alleged collaborators, theocratic extremists who oppose the existence of a democratic Palestinian state, alleged gangsters, and drug dealers (but nobody ever mentions Hamas' war on drugs?).

The obliteration of Gaza doesn't justify shooting in Bondi, and 7 October 2023 doesn't justify the total destruction of Gaza (or the extrajudicial execution of tens of thousands of Hamas members), and the mass shootings in the Negev on 7 October 2023 were massively counter-productive towards any goal Hamas claimed.

But the only plausible connection between 7 October 2023 in the Negev and 14 December 2025 in Bondi, is what happened in Gaza in between.

For anyone who forgets the "monster chef" headline:
It was about the murder of #MayangPrasetyo – she was killed by her partner and the coverage was awful, here it is with the slur, I don't know if the article is any good, but I wanted something that showed the whole awful front page https://www.bandt.com.au/the-courier-mail-she-male-headline-was-gratuitous-and-caused-offence-australian-press-council/ #Transphobia

I wish critics of Israel would shut up about "civilians". Because "wipe out Hamas" is itself a genocidal goal, or at the very least, the war crime of "extermination". Self defense is allowed, but that doesn't mean killing every human being in the group. Self defense means using minimum force to prevent or repel an attack, warfare means using force to achieve some other goal, but when the goal itself is to kill every member of a group as such, that's extermination, and when they are a subset of a larger vilified ethnic or religious group, that's "destroy a group, in whole of in part".

So Hamas use defenceless women and children as shields. Israel targets supposed Hamas killers regardless of the death of innocents. Doesn’t that make the Israeli army and Hamas militia the same? #IsraelTerroristState #hamasgenocide #Palestinians

really most of the thread are more insightful than I'd expect

one of them found this: "The desire to exterminate Hamas—in all its aspects—is part and parcel of Israel’s attempt to eradicate the Palestinian people, both as a factual and legal matter. Indeed, Israeli officials have long viewed the destruction of the Palestinian people’s political and military leadership as key to destroying the Palestinian people as a national group. (Kimmerling 10). Grappling with these realities head on cannot and should not be avoided by those seeking to hold Israel accountable for its genocide in Gaza." https://opiniojuris.org/2024/08/02/reflecting-on-genocidal-intent-in-the-icj-case/

Hamas are not going to surrender.

They're open to compromise, but they're not going to surrender. I hope South Africa can do magic twice somehow.

The possible outcomes are:

- Hamas stay in power

- Hamas survives (and either disarms or hands over government power to other Palestinians, probably not both)

- Hamas all get extrajudicially executed, not enough leadership left to recruit replacements. Palestine is annexed, or stays run by Abbas or another very unpopular self serving Western puppet. But that won't stop the resistance, and without Hamas leadership it will definitely get worse. Their bitter rival ISIS is one of the most likely. This risk is the second-biggest reason I want Hamas to survive. This outcome is more dangerous for me and everyone I love, we're not in Israel, So Hamas are no risk to us, but ISIS gaining support is a slight danger increase. This is no safer for Israel, and more dangerous for everyone else.

- The worst outcome is that it's Hamas genocide continues. Thie is the biggest reason I want Hamas to survive, Israel extrajudicially executes all Hamas members, but they are recruited just as fast. This, combined with bystanders being killed (allegedly unavoidable) will, if nobody stops the IDF, end up killing all 6 million Palestinians in the Occupied territories. I can't work out of this is the plan, but it's what will happen if the current situation continues and nobody stops Israel.

Somebody needs to do Israel, somehow.

The most workable peace is 2 demilitarised states. With some blue helmets and the protection guarantee the neighbouring Arab states offered. Make the whole Middle East a nuclear weapon free zone, etc. That MIGHT work. BUT two problems.

1. How do we get there?
The nuclear rogue state is never going to agree to this, because currently they've got the nukes. And more military hardware than all their neighbours combined. Nobody mentions the nukes, but I think they're a big oat of km

2. Israel's economy
Currently their economy hugely depends on the military for both exports and employment, that will be hard to replace. But somebody needs to find a way to force them somehow.

I'm not implying some unstated unmentionable easy to do Israel I actually have no idea how.

I hope South Africa wins. They managed to end apartheid and ditch the nukes that Israel helped the apartheid leadership acquire, It's been done once. They can't quite keep the lights on, but they solved both problems the currently feel unsolvable about Israel.

There is a risk that the #HamasGenocide is spreading to the #USA you are currently at about stage 3

"Discrimination – The dominant group denies civil rights or even citizenship to identified groups. The 1935 Nuremberg Laws stripped Jews of their German citizenship"

People who are even non-violently or indirectly perceived as supporting "Hamas" risk being striped of #citizenship

You're only at about 1933 though, not quite 35.

This gives me the creeps in a way I cannot fully articulate, what are they rushing to DO in that time?

"Equally important, in most of its previous wars, Israel operated under tight time constraints, with its allies forcing it to cease fire within days or weeks." https://www.haaretz.co.il/magazine/2024-04-18/ty-article-magazine/.highlight/0000018e-eb6a-d7e3-a9bf-ff7f1c400000?gift=07009dff19ef4cf498b7b91abe5a022c #HaaretzHebrew (I'll post the original below)

Israel are urged to cease fire because they are fighting a much weaker opponent and after they've already exhausted every action that could be reasonably considered self defense, they just keep going into overkill "revenge" or to be unreasonably sympathetic to them "deterrent". But doing that does NOT reduce how much people will want to destroy Israel.

That article goes on. "But in the current war, given Hamas's murderousness, Israel was given many months by its allies to occupy Gaza, change the situation there to the best of its ability, release the hostages, and create an alternative order in the region."

But WHY did anyone give them the time to obliterate Gaza!? Within somewhere between a day and a fortnight Israel successfully fought off all the militants on their side of the Green Line and at that point it was time to stop shooting and exchange prisoners.

Stop shooting and exchange prisoners is what ant civilized nation would have done before the end of October 2023, or even any nation making a half hearted attempt at pretending. Even Russia exchanges prisoners with Ukraine.

But no, Israel of "quit while they're ahead" Israel kept going, until a lot of people who would have confidently answered that yes "Israel has a right to exist" are probably now changing their mind about this deranged rogue state.

Israel are not trying honestly to disarm Hamas, they're trying to exterminate Hamas, that's not self defense, that's genocide. When Hamas try to talk and Israel keep working through their kill list of tens of thousands of Palestinian Sunni Muslims, we really need to step back and look at what this is.

Even IF every person they killed was an adult man and a member of the Hamas movement, mass execution of tens of thousands of men is a genocidal extermination campaign. If someone wants to extrajudicially execute a group of tens of thousands of people, we really shouldn't take their explanation at all seriously.

You seem to have learnt what you know about international law and Hamas from the IDF? The #IDF present their war crimes as compliant

There is no international law that would forbid doctors being members of Hamas, most of Hamas is not a military organisation, they are a political and religious movement, I suspect this is the main reason why Israelis never say #Qassam saying "Hamas" are all valid targets is like saying it would be valid for the British to start assassinating doctors who are members of Sinn Fein.

This is why we need to stop regarding all of #Hamas as a terror group! That's just deranged #Israeli propaganda deliberately intended to give them an excuse to kill civilian who are members of Hamas civilian government workforce. #Abbas has also spent nearly two decades undermining Gaza's civil service, but that's another story.

Even most of the #ExtrajudiciallyExecutey Qassami fighters were flat out murdered (especially, when this included their entire families), but murdering doctors is unambiguous goddamn bloody genocide.

Even if the doctors are part of Kataeb al Qassam, #MilitaryMedics are a protected class and targeting them is a war crime.

You could have a hospital where ever patient was a wounded combatant and every staff member is a military medic, and that is not allowed to be targeted.

Stop the #HamasGenocide !

If someone makes a list of people they want to kill and everyone on that list is the same ethnicity and religion, and that is a different ethnicity and / or religion to the people who made the list … You should ignore what they label the list, that plan is a goddamn genocide! no excuses!

But it's not just 52, it's reportedly more like 37,000

If you have a plan to extrajudicially execute 37,000 Arab Muslims, that's not justice, that's extermination!!

Even if Palestine is not "real", this war is still a genocide, without that identification the target group is Arab Muslims and the part is "in Hamas".

Even if every one of the people killed was "Hamas", tens of thousands of extrajudicially executions are still a goddamn genocide!
