I am so frustrated. I have been looking at moving my radio shack computer off Windows and Ham Radio Deluxe and moving to Linux with Wavelog and some other equivalent apps.

Attempt 1 - Debian
My first choice when it comes to stable distros without the quirks of Ubuntu. Installs fine, looks good. Headless operation OK using xrdp. FLRIG refuses to connect via serial to the transceiver, even when other apps (wsjtx have no problem). Without FLRIG I cannot use the Wavelog Agent when logging, so a dealbreaker.

Attempt 2 - Ubuntu
Installed and it feels slow and sluggish. FLRIG works this time, but the UI GNOME and the UI is pretty much unusable over xrdp and VNC Server wonโ€™t load a window manager.

This pretty much reminds me of the same experience I had with ham radio and Linux 10 years ago. Nothing is ever easy, something is always not quite working and I find myself questioning my sanity every time.

For all the crap I/we give windows, Iโ€™ve plugged in my USB controls for my radios and it just works. Ham Radio Deluxe although desperately needing itโ€™s v7 update (not released yet) for the most part just works.

Iโ€™ll give Debian one more attempt this week, then after that I think I am just going to stick with what works.
