Cars are bad for the environment and bad for our health. We should exercise more and stop using our cars so much.

So why did I drive to my hairdresser just a couple of kilometres away instead of walking???

The answer is time and the lack of it. We are trapped in a temporal madness. All adults in a household work 38 hours a week to tread financial water while giving the quality and time required to raise children to be wonderful adults who will make the world a better place, and look after their parents who looked after them as children, and dealing with life admin, and trying to nurture relationships with friends and relations, and get 8 hours sleep a night, and ...

An 8 minute car ride x2 beat a 25 minute pleasant walk x2. I spend 7 days a week madly trying to squeezing in too much and trying to squeeze in those meditative moments that replenish one, without which stress levels rise. But exercise also reduces stress, but exercise takes time that I don't have. I just make sure that I use public transport and run for that because I am late, because I was trying to fit something else in.

Solving this temporal madness will be one thing that helps to reduce our use of cars.

But I won't be waiting for a solution to this problem that makes our lives so poor. Next time I will try to walk to my hair appointment.
