I also saw it in a theater (not IMAX) and I'm glad I did. I read the book, too, and agree that it was an excellent adaptation.

I watched Project #HailMary in IMAX today.
As a book fan, I think it was the best adaptation I could have possibly asked for. It’s faithful to the original story, and is a great sci-fi movie on its own. My first time in a movie theater in over a year, and I’m glad I decided to watch it!
