There are those who argue that #Palaeolithic & #Mesolithic #societies were #egalitarian & #pacific - practically #Utopian, indeed (I very much doubt the truth of this thesis) - but #humans have definitely organised themselves in increasingly #hierarchic & #inegalitarian societies from the #Neolithic onwards.

Rereading "The World Without Us" by Alan Weisman I came across this, which speaks to so much of the violence going on in the world.

"Murderous, mutual loathing between tribes was no more explicable, or complicated, than the genocidal urges of chimpanzees—a fact of nature that we humans, vainly or disingenuously, pretend our codes of civilization transcend."
