Tai pirmasis rinkoje pasirodęs Android telefono modelis, kardinaliai pakeitęs telefonų industriją ir tapęs aršios konkurencinės kovos atskaitos tašku.
Nors jis laikomas pirmuoju Google telefonu, kūrė sumanūs HTC inžinieriai bendradarbiaudami su Open Handset Alliance ir Google. HTC susidūrė su ne menku iššūkiu sukurti telefoną platformai, kuri dar nebuvo pilnai optimizuota jutikliniam valdymui. Dėl to jis turėjo dvigubą įvesties sistemą: pilną atlenkiamą QWERTY klaviatūrą (būtiną patogiam teksto įvedimui) ir nedidelį trackball, skirtą tiksliam navigavimui.
3.2 colio TFT lietimimis ekranas, fizinė QWERTY klaviatūra, 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7201A procesorius, 192 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM (microSD iki 16 GB), 3.2 MP kamera be video, Android 1.0 operacinė sistema (atnaujinta iki 1.6), Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, 1150 mAh baterija (iki 5 val. pokalbių, 400 val. budėjimo), dydis 117 x 55 x 17 mm, svoris 158 g.

While I didn't have one, I do miss the slide-out screen that revealed a physical keyboard, and part out of also missed the additional buttons, and especially that they are physical ones rather than virtual.
