I've watched several fascinating documentaries about Captain Sir John Franklin’s expedition to cross the Northwest Passage through the Canadian Arctic in 1845.

Mit ein "wenig" Verspätung hat #ParksCanada gestern mal etwas über Artefakte veröffentlicht, die bereits 2022 beim Wrack von #HMSErebus geborgen wurden. Alles winzige Teile in einem gewaltigen Puzzzle, in denen Spezialisten jedoch wertvolle Hinweise entdecken könnten.

Danke fürs Teilen. Die #Franklinexpedition ist ein großes Thema. (Leider hat der Autor zum Schluss einiges durcheinander gebracht, Fakten über das Wrack von #HMSErebus wurden dem von #HMSTerror zugeschrieben.)

Went out in my lunch break and found the gravestone for William Orren and his parents

He's not buried here, as he was an able seaman on HMS Erebus, during the Franklin Expedition to find the Northwest passage in the 1840s.

The ship was abandoned by the crew in 1848, and was not found until 2014.

The gravestone is in Town Hall gardens, Chatham. The burials were moved from here to Maidstone Road cemetery, and the gravestones now stand against the wall.
