Houston ISD families encounter transportation troubles as district starts second year under state control

About 700 students did not receive their bus route information before the first day of school Monday. HISD scaled back bus routes leading up to its second year under state-appointed leadership and is expanding Superintendent Mike Miles' New Education System (NES) from 85 schools to 130.

Houston ISD reducing number of bus routes for 2024-25 to cut costs, travel times

As part of a series of changes affecting the roughly 3,000 HISD students who do not attend their zoned campus, assigned bus stops will be within a 3-mile radius of a student's home after previously being within 2 miles.
