Well that's cute, someone made a software decoder for "HD Radio" that also shows the embedded weather and traffic maps for iHeart stations and their Total Traffic Network service. Looks like it would on a fancy automobile screen or something. #hdradio

Interestingly, I tuned in a local Audacy station and it showed a different set of services from Navteq, which the decoder doesn't seem to support, but it recognizes that they're present.

NRSC5-DUI: An Updated NRSC-5 HD Radio Decoder for RTL-SDR

Recently we've seen on GitHub the release of NRSC5-DUI, a fork of NRSC5-GUI which was the first fully functional RTL-SDR compatible HD Radio decoder that we posted about back in 2017. HD Radio is a digital broadcast protocol replacement for analogue broadcast FM. It’s time for quarterly #transmitter maintenance at one of my sites today. I always enjoy this one because I get to light up this #VacuumTube powered beauty and put it on the air! Ever since I had that Flexstar exciter repaired, it can even do HD Radio on a tube!

Today, I turned off two AM transmitters and ended some decades of #AMRadio history in #Vancouver.

Don't get me wrong, this is/was coming, but I thought it might be another 5-10 years until this really started happening.

Now if we could only get the #HDRadio standard opened up so people can build their own receivers at home.

#HDRadio has been the standard for #DigitalRadio in the United States for over 20 years now. So why does it seem that most #radio listeners don't even know it exists?
