Temporary Closure of Hwy 11 and Kīlauea Summit Due to Volcanic Rock Impacts
Due to significant tephra fallout during the eruption (now paused), Kīlauea summit is temporarily closed. Highway 11 is closed between mile markers 27.5 and 40 due to thick amounts of tephra covering the road. Avoid the area. Workers are using heavy equipment to clear roadways.

Use Caution Hiking Kīlauea Iki Trail Western Switchbacks
Construction on the western switchbacks of Kīlauea Iki Trail is incomplete, however the trail and switchbacks remain open. Hikers need to be aware of uneven surfaces and take extreme caution to watch their footing in this area.
