pyaasa is a masterpiece. its about a destitute poet who's helped by two women, one from his past and one from his present. its about both greed and selflessness, and human nature in a capitalist society. its genuinely incredible how beautifully this film is written. the cinematography is incredible as well, especially that shot near the end where they're commemorating his death and he appears with the light shining from behind him - it felt christ-like and kinda recontextualised the whole film in that light as well. also liked the care with which they depicted sex work and sex workers, pretty progressive for its time i think.
i dunno what else to say, its just incredible. definitely my favourite indian film of all time (so far)
