Gabriola Island 2025

To kick off the summer (and celebrate Astrid’s birthday), we spent a week vacationing on Gabriola Island with Emily’s extended family.

We spent one day kayaking around the smaller islands off Silva Bay, with Astrid navigating.

We saw seals, oystercatchers, starfish, and sea snakes.

We stopped on two public islands to walk around (Carlos and Saturnina). The water was clear and warm and beautiful for swimming – it almost looked we were in the Caribbean.

Gabriola is famous for its sandstone shoreline and the cool formations that have formed.

Astrid and her cousins had lots of fun at the big house we rented, with many epic rounds of hide-and-go-seek. There were all kinds of board games and backyard games (like kubb) to try.

But we mostly just relaxed and enjoyed the beaches and the beautiful weather.

One day, I hope to visit all the #GulfIslands #BCtravel

Today we ventured to #Thetis

It has been a bit since a new post went up on Sidewalking Victoria and that is because I have been travelling! Here is the first place I went to recently, Mayne Island. Let me know what great place on Mayne Island I missed! #travel #gulfislands #britishcolumbia

6 Amazing Places to Visit on Mayne Island — Sidewalking Victoria

Longtime readers will know of my love of spending time on the Gulf Islands. I think I have written about ten articles about my visits to local islands in the Salish Sea (you can read a couple of the more recent ones here and here). We recently went to a really special family gathering on Mayne Islan

Since we apparently had a 5.1 off #SecheltBC at 1:26pm, here is the "did you feel it?" website where you can file your earthquake observations with the government. It's pretty fun!
