Esta obra de Guido Reni es un óleo sobre lienzo de 88 x 72 cm, actualmente conservado en el Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Representa a San José sosteniendo al Niño Jesús, quien juega con una manzana, símbolo del pecado original y la misión redentora de Cristo. La escena está impregnada de una profunda ternura y espiritualidad.

El estilo combina el claroscuro manierista con el naturalismo barroco. Las figuras están iluminadas por una luz diagonal que resalta los contrastes en los ropajes y las expresiones.
