The Guardian published the results of an "investigation" into the quality of Google's health-related AI Overviews earlier this week.

That was one of the worst analyses of search results I have ever read. The author was completely naive and didn't seem to understand that AI Overviews summarize search results.

Gemini (which creates the AI Overviews) is only going to produce summaries as good as the search results themselves.

And now news organization after news organization is citing that ridiculous article as if it brought something to light other than the utter incompetence of the Guardian's reporter and editorial team.

Are there problems with AI Overviews? Absolutely. But the last thing we need is for crappy journalism that misrepresents what is happening in the search results.
