Update on my longterm backyard soil remediation project & trying to replace lawn with alternative groundcover/edible & medicinal plants/wildflowers. This is part of the patch that I did cardboard/seaweed/leaf mulching on last year. It now has mixed #clovers & #DeadNettles & #chickweed. These will all attract more pollinators, when they flower too 🐝🦋

It's from my friend, Jeff, whom I originally met off of Mastodon, back in 2022. We met in person in 2023 & exchanged plants🪴We've stayed friends over the years. We are working towards similar community building goals, in separate areas of the island. Ideally, would love to have a full food security, localized food systems 'spine', running West-East/South-North, across #VancouverIsland.
Jeff lives up island with his wife & kids. He also works in #nonprofit #FoodSecurity & #environmental #stewardship. He works for #Greenways #LandTrust in #CampbellRiver :

I picked some more #apples from our big tree in the backyard. There's about 25-30 lbs of apples left to harvest for this year - I'll get that done later in the week 👍
