Today in Labor History February 1, 1960: Activists began a series of sit-ins in Greensboro, North Carolina. Woolworthβs denied service to 4 black college students because of the color of their skin. In response, they refused to move from a lunch counter, setting off a series of similar protests. By September, 1961, over 70,000 students, white and black, had participated in the sit-ins.

The last active CBA for the ECHL expired in June 2025. In late December 2025, the PHPA informed its players that it could force players to stop work as early as December 26, 2025. There has been back and forth between the ECHL and the PHPA, but the two parties have yet to reach an agreement. As of December 26, the PHPA has forced the cancellation (or postponing) of games, including those that were scheduled for this weekend.
Today in Labor History November 3, 1979: KKK and Nazis shot and killed 5 members of the Communist Workers Party during a "Death to the Klan" rally in Greensboro, North Carolina, United States. The CWP had come to support workers' rights among mostly black textile industry workers in the area. The first 2 trials acquitted all the attackers.
