@bardmoss @VoxOfGod in the Odyssey, she was a monster under the sea who caused a giant whirlpool.
Odysseus was advised by whatshername, the nymph, to pass by Scylla because then he'd lose at most 6 men, rather than Charybdis, which would kill everyone. But you know, he had the worst luck ever, so the current took him to Charybdis after he survived Scylla anyway 😅

"Three times a day, Charybdis swallowed a huge amount of water, before belching it back out again, creating large whirlpools capable of dragging a ship underwater. In some variations of the story, Charybdis was simply a large whirlpool instead of a sea monster."
I wanna know what spoilsport would change it from a belching sea monster to just a whirlpool. I bet they're fun at parties.*
