Looking at moving, calling lots of letting agents and always the same conversation.
Them: Do you have a good credit rating?
Me: No, it's poor, but that has no impact on my ability to pay rent and look after a property, be a good neighbour etc.
Them: Hmmm ok, do you have someone who can act as gaurantor?
Me: Yes, my ex-husband.
Them: Oh excellent, aslong as a man can vouch for you that's good.
(Last part in not so many words but obvious)
WHY DO THEY DO THIS!!!!!
Credit checks to rent property are unfair, irrelevant and gatekeeping. They lock out the most vulnerable to private renting and keep us trapped in social housing.
The change in attitude when I say that YES A MAN CAN VOUCH FOR ME is fucking disgusting. No explanation needed.
A question for those familiar with the Boston housing rental scam:
If my current contract ends on 08/31 and the next one begins on 09/01, where does one sleep on the 31st ? Is everyone who moves in Boston supposed to spend at least one night in a hotel with their belongings in some sort of storage ? Is it legal for the landlord to charge extra for an overnight stay on 08/31 ?
