#WWI was sparked by the assassination of Archduke #FranzFerdinand, who was the heir presumptive to the throne of #Austria - #Hungary. That #assassination was the proximate cause of the #GreatWar of 1914.

He was not even king, and he had NO official power over the government of the dual monarchy. #JustSayin #Khamenei #Iran #War #Trump #Hegseth #US #Israel

Last read of 2025 an absolute banger. New detailed account of the opening days/weeks of WW1. Using significant amount of first hand experience, both soldiers and civilians. Also covers the experience around entire globe. Fantastic read and addition to the library. Highly recommended. #ww1 #fww #greatwar #history #militaryhistory
#FotoVorschlag: Tatort // Crime scene

A Sarajevo crime scene: Here, by the #LatinBridge, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated alongside his wife by a nationalist student group. Their act was intended to provoke rebellion against Austro-Hungarian rule, and unite Bosnia and Herzegovina with Serbia and other South Slavic nations as a cherry on top (Yugoslavia, anyone?). Austria-Hungary, backed by the German Empire, responded with a harsh ultimatum to teach Serbia a lesson. Serbia's ally Russia was not amused and soon, more and more allied countries were pulled into the conflict and the First World War was in full swing. Thank goodness we all learned our lesson from that! 🙄
