Katsushika Ōi wurde um 1800 geboren. Sie ging zunächst bei ihrem Vater in die Lehre, später wurde sie Schülerin von Tsutsumi Torin III, wo sie auch ihren späteren Mann Minamizawa Tomei kennenlernte.
