Another pre-breakfast, hour long "commute" on the local gravel paths. I encountered another fallen tree, both are within metres of each other. It was great fun in the rain and the dirt. A superb solo Sunday 50km ride on the Grav-i-Ti. Picked up the Peak Forest canal, near home, all the way to Disley. Then onto the hard, climby tracks around Lyme Park before heading back through Chadkirk, then back onto the canal at Romiley and head home. Lots of wildlife, including a beautiful pair of Mandarin ducks. Another dinner time ride, another 30 minutes of fun on the gravel bike. It was nice to head down to Reddish Vale, take in the River Tame meandering through the viaduct, before the bone-shaking drag back to Denton. Quality.

Nipped out for just under 70km with a mate yesterday, the first long ride on the new bike. About 90% of it was off-road; down towpaths, old railway lives and other tracks. Great fun, and we missed the rain. Mind you, I could have done without the relentless 14-16%ers in the last 5km! I've never been more happy to have a huge sprocket on the back!

#NBD Today, I finally picked up my 60th birthday present to myself (it was last October!), a North Road Cycles Grav-i-Ti. I got the tram down to Sale Moor and rode Nollaig back via the gravel/rocks/sand/cobbles tracks that run alongside the River Mersey, from Sale Moor to Stockport. Then onto tarmac for the last 9km home. Of course, it got filthy so had its first wash later in the afternoon, too!
