John Rankin was a Presbyterian minister in VA, KY, and OH. Arguing against slavery, he asked who’d allow their own daughter to be attached to a yoke and having to wear out their life for another’s wealth and ease.

Some have celebrated the wearing out of other’s lives which was going on in this time, because it gave the slothful more time to think.
