A small wooden footbridge, known locally as Devil’s Bridge, spans a shallow rocky stream at the entrance to Swallow Woods. The bridge has timber railings on both sides and a wooden gate at the near end, opening onto grassy ground. Behind, the dense woodland is filled with mature trees, their foliage forming a lush green backdrop. Ferns and bracken grow at the woodland edge.

I wasn't planning on looking for wildlife on Saturday: the family gathered for a meal to mark my Father's 92nd birthday. So I was astonished to notice an #orchid growing in an unmown grass verge less than 100 metres from home. I instantly thought it was Pyramidal Orchid, which I was able to confirm by closer examination. A really exciting find.

Also an accidental side-effect of the council going bust.
