I bet Granny Weatherwax still has to bump-start it, and if it ever asked her to 'upgrade', it would not go well.

For a split second I thought I was being fired via RFID, when my ID card triggered a "Card expired" message on Saturday morning (I have a regular day job).
The sticky note on the card was a nice touch :-)
My niece (14) is reading my copy of Good Omens for school and loving it. She wanted advice on what to read next. I'm going with Equal Rights. Because I believe this is the perfect age to introduce her to Granny Weatherwax. She's got a good head on her shoulders as is, but it's good to reinforce good behaviour. Susan Sto Helit will be next.

I swear this cat can fade into the background like #GrannyWeatherwax and become completely invisible. Been actively looking for her several times in the past hour or so and only found her when she opened her eyes. Sometimes the kittens sit right next to her without even realising she is there.
@Wicket_weir thank you for posting this! My fav: #GrannyWeatherwax in #CarpeJungulum

"Sin [...] is when you treat people like things. Including yourself. That's what sin is. [...] When people say things are a lot more complicated than that, they means they're getting worried that they won't like the truth. People as things, that's where it starts."

"Oh, I'm sure there are worse crimes--"

"But they starts with thinking about people as things..."
Just like #GrannyWeatherwax, #GinnyCat has perfected the art of fading into the background and thus becoming invisible. She just sits there, perfectly still, observing the world. The girls can play in the same room and even look out for her but never see her until she allows them to. Even we humans sometimes miss her although she sits right in the middle of the room.
As #TerryPratchett's #GrannyWeatherwax reminds us, this is the root of all sin: "sin is when you treat people like things":

So much of the criticism of AI misses this distinction - instead, this criticism starts by accepting the self-serving marketing claim of the "AI safety" crowd - that their software is on the verge of becoming self-aware, and is thus valuable, a good investment, and a good product to purchase.
