On January 7, 1926, Nathan Birnbaum married Grace Ethel Cecile Rosalie Allen.
Happy 100th, George and Gracie!
As an adopted kid, I loved knowing that Burns and Allen had adopted their two children. Here they are w/ son Ronnie on the set of their TV show in 1958.
Long before Hillary Clinton or Kamala Harris competed for the U.S. presidency, there was a dark horse woman candidate way back in 1940:
"Now, I don’t pretend to know all the answers. I’m just a plain, ordinary, everyday genius who loves her fellow-man whenever possible.
"But let me tell you that women are getting very tired of running a poor second to the Forgotten Man, and with all the practice we’ve had around the house the time is ripe for a woman to sweep the country.
"I’ll make a prediction with my eyes open: that a woman can and will be elected if she is qualified and gets enough votes."

“A Damsel in Distress” (1937) — Very early career Joan Fontaine gets the title role, but the star is Fred Astaire. His chief partners in comedy, music and dance are George Burns and Gracie Allen.
In fact, Gracie Allen just about walks off with this movie all by herself. The tunes of George and Ira Gershwin get an honorable mention.
