PM Carney announces Canada Strong Fund - a sovereign wealth fund.

The fund will focus on building infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, energy and mining with a mandate to deliver market-rate returns.

It will operate at arms-length from government as a new Crown Corporation, guided by a CEO and a qualified independent board of directors and it will provide mechanisms for Canadian citizens to directly participate. It may also put in investments form others, with Qatar, India, and the United Arab Emirates already indicating a willingness to invest in Canada. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/27/world/canada/canada-sovereign-wealth-fund.html #Canada #Investment #SoverignWealthFund #CanadaStrong #Carney #Infrastructure #CanGov #GovernmentofCanada #Investing

Maybe this question has been asked before and maybe it hasn't - but to preface - I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV. I have (in a previous, gainfully employed life that I find I am missing less and less outside of the recurring paycheck) liaised with a good number of legal folks - both corporate and external counsel facing types.

And I had been involved - at least in the periphery - of some investigations of allegations of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) on a corporate laptop. And the corporate legal guidance was clear in this case - regardless of country or jurisdiction: if there was a suspicion of CSAM - internal investigations stopped - and it was immediately referred to the appropriate governmental investigative entity.

In any jurisdiction I was aware of - possession of CSAM was a crime - end of discussion. And I believe that to be the case here in Canada.

Now, as I understand it - if I - as a private citizen were to browse a website - say X[.]com - and encountered CSAM and had it even unknowingly in my browser cache - that could potentially be an offense. (I'm sure some weaseldick lawyer could make any number of arguments in this case - but the important thing that this would have to be made on the record in court; this isn't a case of "Whoopsie-doodle, my bad" anymore)

And yet - we have an undaunted presence of official Government of Canada entities maintaining a presence there and using the platform as a legitimate form of engagement with Canadian citizens.

I think that it's a tacit approval of that platform to maintain a continued presence there, and it's offensive to any civic minded person of any nationality.

Now, in the defense of a number of Canadian institutions - many have cleared out of that Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy™

https://mobilesyrup.com/2025/02/27/canada-supreme-court-leaves-x-twitter-for-better-platforms/

However - according to the data on

https://www.canada.ca/en/social.html

There are still approximately 377 official Government of Canada accounts on X.

That number needs to move to 0, and fast.

  • This is the inevitable outcome of the design of an LLM that has been pushed to included a "spicy mode" at the explicit behest of the "Let That Sink In" loser.

    • Musk is being vastly unserious about this issue - trying to frame this as if he is the victim of government censorship.
  • Musk's "solution" to this issue was to restrict CSAM and non-consensual porn generation capabilities to payed accounts only

As a result - I do not expect this issue to be remediated satisfactorily any time soon - in fact - I expect that it will get worse as The CEO of Chaos seems to have been taking brinkmanship lessons from the Mango Mussolini, and will likely double down on this until such time as it destroys the platform or the US threatens to invade any country that blocks X.

Regardless of any discussions that may be in play regarding blocking or not blocking this platform - it needs to be abandoned as a tool of official government of Canada communication.

  • The best time to have ceased presence on X (nee Twitter) would have been when Elon bought it.

  • The Second Best time to have ceased presence on X would have after the richest crybaby on Earth made a Goddamn Nazi salute on live TV.

  • The next best time to leave X would be right fucking now.

The #Canadian Association for Work and #Labour Studies #CAWLS is calling on the federal government to immediately restore #PublicAccess to #DataTracking work stoppages and to collect more information on #LabourRelations.

It has now been over three months since Employment and Social Development Canada #ESDC quietly removed data tracking work stoppages from its website. This move also affected #StatisticsCanada tables which report strike and lockout numbers historically. The removal of these #data deprives #researchers and #unions of critical information.

We need to be more self-sufficient and more resilient – and we’ll do so by making big, generational investments that grow our economy.
This is our moment – our time to build big, build bold, and build now. It’s time to build Canada Strong.
